WHAT'S NEW?

WE'LL BE USING THIS SECTION OF THE SITE FOR NEWS ON
UPCOMING REPRINT PROJECTS INVOLVING 'THE BIG THREE',
AS WELL AS WHAT WE'VE UPDATED ON THE SITE.

UPDATED! --- Nothing exceptionally new gang, but I did fix up the main page, and correct alot of the old email addresses on the site to my current one. I'd love to see some more rare, or unpublished works, by 'The Big Three', and we would also love to hear from professionals whom were either influenced or worked directly with either Bill, Alex or Syd. Much like Gene Colan's 'A Tribute To Syd Shores' piece, we would love to have any professional write a similar dedication (or historical article). If you are willing, please E-MAIL ME and we can work out the details.

Also, if you are a relative of Bill, Syd or Alex, I'd love to hear from you to enhance this tribute to three men deserving. This is the first I've updated the site in a while, and would love to add worthwhile additions.

UPDATED! --- Well, FINALLY the art section of the site is back on the air. In fact, as you can see we've moved to a new URL, thanks to Jon Lovstad (see the link on the main page, or the links section, for the GCD). We've tried to correct a FEW of the problems with the site, but there will be some links (especially at the bottom of pages) that will take you back to the interlog site, or nowhere, but alas I am writing a book for TWOMORROWS and it was a miracle to get this far. The '40s part of each checklist of each artist is still a nightmare (so take thos entries with a grain of salt); I still list some August Schomburg mag. covers as being by Alex; and the scans suffer a bit from having low-band width back in 1999. If you want to see much BIGGER, and better, versions of Everett and Shores' 1950s Atlas work, check out my TIMELY-ATLAS Cover Gallery at www.timely-atlas.comics.org. Once my book is written, and I get some time off (in August), I'll make a greater effort to fix the issues. Still, it's a start, so please send in rare, or unpublished works, by 'The Big Three', and we would also love to hear from professionals whom were either influenced or worked directly with either Bill, Alex or Syd. Much like Gene Colan's 'A Tribute To Syd Shores' piece, we would love to have any professional write a similar dedication (or historical article). If you are willing, please E-MAIL ME and we can work out the details.

NEWS! --- In October, Marvel Comics released two projects with art by 'The Big Three'. An 80-Page Sqaurebound, MARVEL MYSTERY COMICS #1 features various stories reprinted from the title of the 1940s. Bill Everett's Sub-Mariner story, "The Case of the Vanishing Convicts" (12 pages), is reprinted from MARVEL MYSTERY COMICS #23 (Sep '41). The second is a reprint of ALL WINNERS COMICS #19. Ray Lago did a cover painting re-creating Syd Shores' original cover, which is printed on the first page inside. No credits are listed inside the issue, but the first five pages, featuring Captain America, are clearly Syd Shores' pencils. But the Human Torch portion AND the Miss America portion especially look like Syd's pencils. Syd had very distinctive women (it's in their faces) and these match up pretty well. And the final Captain America sequence? Forget about it! Syd all the way! The only real question for me is did Syd just ink a portion or two of the book, or have extreme help on the pencils and/or backgrounds of the stuff he seemed to clearly have pencilled. The M.M.C. package has brilliant reproduction and costs only $3.95 U.S., while the A.W.C. comic is less superior in its production, and oddly enough costs #3.99 U.S.; four cents more for far less pages.

NEWS! --- November will see the release of a reprint of Western comics from the Atlas/Marvel days. Expect a heavy dose of Dick Ayers and John Severin, but how could a book like this be complete without some Syd Shores' BLACK RIDER material from the 1950s? The line-up has not been released from Marvel as of yet. More details as they pour in to us.

UPDATED! --- Heck, EVERYTHING is new today! The site has just been unveiled! We have my rambling discourse on the merits of 'The Big Three' and my personal history with them; we have over 200 scans of rare cover and interior art in their respective Art Gallery sections (all with probing commentary and criticism by moi); there are VERY thorough checklists of Bill, Syd and Alex (including Alex's pulp, magazine and dust jacket covers); we have articles on all three, including a lovely Tribute To Syd Shores piece graciously written by Gene Colan JUST for this web-site. You can also join the Timely-Atlas mailing list I created at yahoogroups.com (54 members and growing everyday!). We'll keep growing, so look back here for any updates to the site.

UPDATED! --- We are always looking for rare, or unpublished works by 'The Big Three', but we would also look to hear from professionals whom were either influenced or worked directly with either Bill, Alex or Syd. Much like Gene Colan's 'A Tribute To Syd Shores' piece, we would love to have any professional write a similar dedication (or historical article). If you are willing, please E-MAIL ME and we can work out the details.
