THE
SYD SHORES
TIMELY GALLERY

After Simon and Kirby left Timely, Stan Lee took over writing Captain America, while Syd inked over Al Avison's pencils. The work interrupted the careers of many artists and in 1942, Avison was in the service, and Syd took over pencilling the book, with Vince Alascia as the regular inker. Below are two pages to Captain America Comics #22 (Jan '43). The page on your right showed how Syd had captured plenty of Kirby's dynamic playouts, including the action boiling outside the panels. Omnipresent is the spectre of Nazism.
