One day, back in the late '30s, Martin Goodman decided publishing
comic-books, as opposed to the pulps he had been doing, would be a good idea.
After having farmed out work to Bill Everett's gang, Goodman hired Joe Simon
and Jack Kirby; Marvel's two first official employees.
Kirby then hired Syd Shores to a $30/week staff job. Syd says his first job was
to ink Kirby's cover for CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS #1 (Mar '41) and legends
were born. Syd's work, be it pencilling or inking, graced at least 38 issues
of Captain America.
But Syd was a Timely man, first and foremost, and worked on almost all of
Timely's heroes' books in the 1940s. Now, witness Syd's Timely work...
