During war-time, the emphasis was on morale. It was on the notion that
WE were bigger and better than the opposition, so they could not POSSIBLY
win. To that end, Schomburg cleverly exagerated the body sizes of the Timely
heroes on many of the war-time covers. On your left is the cover to All-Winners
#13 (Fall '44), which is an excellent example of same. Notice the size of the
boat compared to OUR heroes. On your left is #17, a post-war cover, which has
dropped this motif (although you can see the post-war influence of atomic energy).
